Fundraiser for Trisha Hessee
We are holding a fund raiser to support Trisha in her fight against Stage 4 Anaplastic Astrocytoma!!
Please join us on Sunday, May 18th from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm - $15.00 per person (tickets include 8 hours unlimited rides/1 round of golf/4 tokens)
If interested, please contact Anna Casillas (602) 757-6216 (email-casillasfam@msn.com) or Melinda Amerson (602) 443-4453 (email-melinda@suntecconcrete.com).
On April 01, 2008 Trisha was taken to the emergency room at John C. Lincoln-Deer Valley for the 3rd visit after falling while trying to go to the bathroom. At 9 weeks pregnant Trisha was admitted to the hospital around 4 o’clock a.m. The doctors listened to her father at this time and gave her an MRI. The results of this MRI staggered everyone in her family; the doctors said it was brain tumors. The doctors found 3 brain tumors located on the front of her brain. Trisha was flown by helicopter to St. Joseph’s, Barrow Neurological Institute for further testing.
Currently, doctors, a highly trained team of surgeons, pathologists, gynecologists and nurses are working on a solution for the cancerous tumors that plague Trisha’s health and pregnancy. Trisha’s family and friends come to you to ask you all for your support and prayers in efforts to heal Trisha.

Carla Sanchez Memorial Fund
Tuesday, March 25th Carla Sanchez, one of my best friends, was tragically murdered at 5:45am. She was parked in front of a friend’s house early that morning to take him to work when suddenly a black vehicle drove up next to her and shot and killed her. At this point no one has been identified as the killer. I, myself, was very close to her. We met our freshman year in high school and remained close since then. Carla was a mother of two very beautiful kids. Her son Carlos and her daughter Cassandra meant the world to her. Carlos will be turning two years old on April 6th and Cassandra (her little Princess as she called her) is 8 months old. Carla was a very hard working mother and a very trustworthy friend.
During this very difficult, very emotional time I would like to ask that if anyone is able to contribute any amount to help her family for funeral expenses and expenses for the children, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Vanessa Lopez
I love and miss her very much and although I won’t EVER understand why this has happened I will do anything I can to ease the pain for her family and keep her memory alive.
The Carla Sanchez Memorial Fund has been set up through Bank of America. Donations can be deposited at ANY Bank of America location under her name.
Again, thank you!

Phoenix Preparatory Academy Fundraiser
As the 8th grade Science Investigations teacher at the Phoenix Preparatory Academy, I am pleased to highlight some of our program’s activities with you. Two of our classes, one 7th and one 8th, conduct field research alongside doctoral candidates from Arizona State University’s Graduate Partners in Science Education. Our students have committed to staying after school for 1 ½ hours every week to work on their projects at the Phoenix Zoo and the Rio Salado Project. Their findings are presented later in the spring at the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair. Currently, this is the only course of its kind offered in the Valley’s inner city.
Science Investigations exposes students to real life experiences as well as a variety of unpublicized science career opportunities. At the end of the year our studies culminate with an oceanography field trip to San Diego where we:
• Charter a fishing boat and drag the ocean floor to capture creatures for study
• Visit Sea World
• Attend lectures and labs at the world renowned Scripps Oceanography Institute
• Get up close and personal with the sea lions and their pups on a beach in La Jolla
Many of our students rarely get the opportunity to venture outside of their neighborhood. This is once in a lifetime trip for the majority. The cost for each participant is $314, which includes roundtrip transportation, lodging, and entrance fees. Our students have been doing fundraisers all year, but are still in dire need of financial assistance. Please consider contributing to these efforts. Flat donations and tax credit contributions are heartily accepted. Online tax credit information is available at www.phxelem.k12.az.us. Checks can be made out to Phoenix Prep Academy, memo- science investigations.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at (602) 523-5880.
